West Smith Funeral Home Manager westsmith@pacestancil.com

West was born in Cleveland, but was raised in San Jacinto County, where he still lives with his wife Cassie and their two children Hayden and Carley. West was encouraged to explore possible career paths in the 8th grade at Shepherd Junior High School by school counselor. He wasn’t quite sure what funeral directors did, but felt led to find out more about the service they provided. His grandparents were good friends with the local funeral directors and his grandmother would carry him up to the funeral home where he would sit for hours asking questions. When he turned sixteen, he came to work for the funeral home doing anything needed to help out. He started out mowing the grass and washing the cars and helped out on funeral services when he could. After high school graduation, he attended Commonwealth College of Funeral Service in Houston then returned to Pace-Stancil to start his career in funeral service. West and his family are members of Calvary Baptist Church. West believes in volunteering; he and Cassie spend their time working with children in our community through the Shepherd FFA Alumni Association and San Jacinto County 4-H. He is a board member of Mercy Water Corp., and the Cleveland Chamber of Commerce. West is also active in the Cleveland Rotary Club.
